FLU SEASON IS HERE!
An annual flu vaccine is the best way to prevent the flu and flu-related complications that could lead to hospitalization or death. Health experts recommend that EVERYONE 6 months and older get a flu vaccine. Upon the recommendations of our Medical Director, Dr. John Ryan, we have begun giving flu shots during normal business hours. Flu shots will be $25.00; cash, Medicare, or insurance will be accepted. You may go to the forms page and print out a client registration form to bring to the Health Department to receive you vaccination.

6 Cases of Measles Identified in Finney County
Those who are ill are asked to stay home except to see a healthcare provider.

All persons born during or after 1957 should have documentation of at least one MMR or other evidence of immunity. Two doses of MMR (measles, mumps, rubella) vaccine are routinely recommended for all children, the first dose at 12-15 months and the second at 4-6 years of age. The Consumer Product Safety Commission has announced new crib safety standards effective December 28, 2010. The manufacture and sale of drop side cribs will be prohibited effective June 28, 2011. Currently the health department has Tdap(tetanus, diphtheria, and pertussis) vaccine free to qualified individuals. To qualify a person must have NO health insurance coverage and must meet income guidelines that are <200% below the poverty guidelines. To see the 2009 poverty guidelines click here.

Who should receive a Tdap vaccine?
    -All adults should get a tetanus booster every 10 years.
    -Adults who have never gotten a Tdap should receive one dose
    -All adults expecting to have contact with an infant younger than 12           months
    -Healthcare workers who have direct patient contact
    -New mothers who have never received Tdap should receive it as soon after delivery as possible

NEW LAW BRINGS CHANGES TO CHILD CARE
LICENSING

In 2010 the Kansas Legislature passed significant changes to the Child Care Act. Known collectively as Lexie’s Law, the changes increased health and safety protections for children in child care settings. In part, Lexie’s Law directed the department to develop an online information dissemination system (K.S.A. 65-634) and to promulgate additional health and safety regulations.

The following new and amended regulations were adopted by the Secretary of Health and Environment and published in the Kansas Register on January 19, 2012. The regulations are effective February 3, 2012.
