                                             FLU SEASON IS HERE!
An annual flu vaccine is the best way to prevent the flu and flu-related complications that could lead to hospitalization or death.  Health experts recommend that EVERYONE 6 months and older get a flu vaccine.  Upon the recommendations of our Medical Director, Dr. John Ryan, we have begun giving flu shots during normal business hours.  Flu shots will be $25.00; cash, Medicare, or insurance will be accepted.  You may go to the forms page and print out a client registration form to bring to the Health Department to receive you vaccination.

NEW LAW BRINGS CHANGES TO CHILD CARE
LICENSING

Lexie's Law went into effect July 1, 2010 requiring all registered daycare homes to
transition to licensed homes, which means they will be inspected at least once a year.
Lexie's Law was named for 13-month old Lexie Engelman who suffered fatal injuries in
2004 on her third day at a Johnson County home daycare.  Her parents have pushed for
reform.  As each registered home comes up for yearly renewal, the provider will be asked
to fill out a licensed home application and the surveyor will then schedule an appointment
to inspect the daycare home.  Other changes included in Lexie's Law include
*KDHE will increase late fees
*Individuals must have at least a high school diploma or equivalent to maintain a child
care facility license. (The bill grandfathers in existing providers)
*A child care open records release will be required to allow KDHE to issue certain
information and create an online system, making it easier for parents and the public to
access compliance history
*Registered providers, at the time of converting to a Licensed Day Care Home, will
need to meet training requirements of 12.5 hours of observation in a daycare home
that has been licensed by KDHE for at least 3 years of continuous operations; or 15 hours
of training; and a first aid course.
